Staroffice  and OpenOffice If you need an office suite that is compatible with Microsoft Office 97 or 2000, you may find that Star Office or OpenOffice meets your needs. OpenOffice is the open source version of StarOffice.

If you are looking for free software that you can download, the best site I have found is Nonags.  Their site is divided into two categories: freeware and shareware.  They originally only provided freeware, so they chose the name nonags, because there are no nagging reminders to register the software.

Tucows has shareware for many platforms from Windows 9x, NT, 2000, CE, to Linux.
Chris Herreras Windows CE site. Chris has created an excellent Windows CE web site.
hpc.net This is a good site covering Handheld PC's in general
Shields Up by Steve Gibson, Gibson Research Corporation. This site will analyze your Internet connection and inform you about potential security risks.
Symantec Security Check. This is Symantec's online security and antivirus scan site to check your system for security risks and viruses.
My Wife (Samantha) has her own website. She is an elementary school teacher, so if you interested, please look at her site.
Free Business Cards Vistaprint will give you 250 color business cards if you use their selected templates.
If you need backup advice, this site, Storage Mountain has excellent information. They include a list of books about backing up your system that can be purchased at Amazon and other book stores. they also have links to free backup software and free reference material.

Flamingtext.com. If you need a website where you can create images for free, flamingtext.com may meet your needs. My wife created the banner on the bio page and the search page at flamingtext.com.

Web Tips and Tricks

If you like the Cursor Tracker on my home page, You can find how to add it and many other neat tricks at 24fun.com. The Cursor tracker is at http://www.24fun.com/downloadcenter/cursortracker4/cursortracker4.html

There are at least two sets of code for the scrolling status bar text. The one that works on my server is at Bravenet.com

This site has some scripts http://www.bente.ougtvig.dk/html.htm

Hardware

Monitors

Monitor World is a site that compiles information about monitors, adapters for PC's to use Sun monitors, monitor adapters for Macintosh, etc. They even have information on the NCD X Terminals.
Software Integrators Graphics Solutions carries video cables, switch boxes, adapters and cables to connect proprietary monitors to standard PC's, etc.

Equipment and Software that I use

I use and recommend the following items: Emachines 700id

This is a good solid machine.  I recommend eMachines unless you are a power user.  If you just need a good solid performing machine, I have had no problems with mine.

Micron Memory

I have purchased memory upgrades for 3 computers from Micron.  They have treated me extremely well, and often offer free two day shipping.  They have a memory selector on their site that allows you to specify the manufacturer and model of your name brand system or motherboard.  For example you can drill down to an eMachines model 700id to match one of my machines, or EPoX EP-MVP3C to match the motherboard in my custom system.

AMD Processors

I have used AMD processors since my first 286.  They have always performed well and met my expectations.

Linux
Currently I use SuSE but I used Slackware first.  Slackware seems to be a smaller distribution, which takes less space, but it is more for experienced Linux or Command line users.

Western Digital Hard Drives
I prefer Western Digital drives, because they have always been extremely reliable in my systems.

Motherboards with VIA chipsets.

Gateway Laptops

Star Office 5 Sun has released a new version of Star Office but I have not used it much yet.

Open Office is a free alternative to Microsoft Office which can be used to open and read Microsoft Office Documents on Windows, Linux on Intel, or Solaris.

Solaris 8 on a Sparc Ultra 1

Web Design Software and Links that I use

Crimson Editor is a program and HTML editor that allows you to connect to a site with FTP and edit the files while they are on the server. You can download Crimson Editor for free. Crimson Editor displays the line numbers in the source code.

RemotePad is similar to Crimson Editor, but it is more like notepad so it does not display the line numbers.
